RJ Balaji must breathe a sigh of relief now as his creation
LKG, which hit the theatres on February 22, has been receiving overtly positive
reviews. The film stars RJ Balaji, Priya Anand, Nanjil Sampath and JK Riteesh
in the lead roles.
In the film, directed by KR Prabhu, Balaji has doubled up as
a writer. The political satire film opened to packed houses and is showered
with positive responses from critics and the general public as well.
On its opening day, LKG seems to have made a mark at the
Tamil Nadu box office. Firstly, the film was allocated the early morning show
at a theatre is Chennai, which is exclusive for top leading heroes in
Kollywood. The film is said to have earned Rs Rs 32 lakh in Chennai alone.
Due to positive reviews, theatre owners are willing to
allocate additional shows for LKG. In Mayajaal (a multiplex in Chennai), the
film had 26 shows with 84 % occupancy, which is unprecedented for a debut hero.
Apart from Tamil Nadu, LKG has also performed well in the
US. Despite stiff competition from films like NTR Mahanayakudu, Kumbalangi
Nights and Gully Boy, the Tamil film has earned Rs 5.5 lakh ($7,774) on its
opening day.
