Tamizh Padam 2 Synopsis: A stringent cop tries all the possible ways to nab a dreaded don who poses a big threat to the society
Tamizh Padam 2 Review:First things first - Tamizh Padam 2 offers what's expected from it. With a slew of spoof scenes taking potshots at umpteen number of Tamil movies, the unique attempt works this time, too. Though there are artistes like Sathish, Iswarya, Manobala, Chetan among others, it's Shiva who single-handedly carries the movie on his shoulders. From Ambala to Bahubali, Veeram to Vivegam, Pokkiri to Bairavaa, the film has utilised all the notable movies and scenes in it. A few politicians in the state and centre have also not been spared.
The story is all about a cop, Shiva (Shiva), who tries to avenge Mr P (Sathish) for the death of former's wife. From the title card Agila Ulaga Superstar, to Shiva's intro, and till the last frame, the director seems to have conceived sequences keeping in mind the current trend and the pulse of audience. Shiva's fight sequence, which imitates a popular scene in Vedalam, the one-liners, war of words with Sathish, are few scenes which are sureshot hit.
Iswarya, who has multiple roles to play, is apt for her role though it could have been written in a better way. But there are moments where she got to play meaty part.
Sathish as the antagonist shines in his multiple avatars as the dreaded don. But we wish his one-liners and histrionics was as good as Shiva's, which would have elevated the film as a whole. Among the multiple appearances he has in the film, a few is quite interesting, but some of them feels a little artificial. The characters of Soundarrajan, Manobala and Santhana Bharathi were underutilised.
The length of the movie and a couple of songs are clear drawbacks which spoil the flow for sometime. An interesting flashback portion, too, becomes a little tiring after a while. However, the film meets the overall expectation, thanks to the highly engaging performance by Shiva. After all, who expected that some of the "mass" scenes from varied films which were lapped up by audience could be shown in a funny manner. The background music helps in adding value to the humour-laced script while cinematography is decent.
