Laurel Griggs, a 13-year-old Broadway actor who got her start at the age of 6 in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, has passed away, CNN reported. Her death has been attributed to cardiac arrest that resulted after an asthma attack.

Since her death on Tuesday, November 5, family and friends have paid tribute to the young star. On Friday, Broadway theaters dimmed their lights in her honor, and actors including Eliza Holland Madore and Jessica Threet, as well as the Young Broadway Twitter account spoke of their fondness for Laurel. “I am deeply saddened by the sudden loss of one of my Ivanka sisters," Eliza wrote. "Laurel- you were always smiling and always made other people laugh." Jessica echoed similar praise, telling CNN, "She just was hardworking. She was always smiling and working hard and always on top of her stuff. She was so talented and kind and she lit up a room every time she walked in."

After appearing in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, which also featured Scarlett Johansson, Laurel Griggs went on to appear in the ONCE musical from 2013 to 2015, People reported. After that, she acted with Steve Carell, Blake Lively, and Kristen Stewart in the 2016 film Cafe Society. She later appeared in some Saturday Night Live skits.

Her father told CNN that Laurel was very determined with her work, saying, "She was never complacent, always rehearsing moves and lines. When he would tell her to relax and assure her that she knew her parts well, he recalls her saying, 'Daddy, not many people get a chance like this.'"
