Veteran actor Sivakumar has been
caught in a controversy for several months now. Not once, but twice, a fan
tried taking a selfie without his permission and he just knocked their phones
away. While he apologised to the fan the first time, the second time he just
kept quiet and didn't issue a statement.
On March 4, Karthi and actress Kasturi
Shankar met each other at the audio launch of July Kaatril. On the dais,
Kasturi said she's going to take a selfie with him and cracked an insensitive
joke saying that his father Sivakumar isn't there with them.
A visibly irked Karthi was furious and
he hit back at Kasturi and several others who attempt to take selfies without
permission. He said, "This is completely unwanted now. The act of taking a
selfie is just disrespectful in recent times. There is no sense for people to
ask others before taking a photo. Instead, they just shove the phone on to your
face. On top of it, the mobile phone has heavy flashes which might affect a
person with migraine. It is just disheartening to see people stoop down to such
levels that they cannot even ask permission of the concerned person."
Karthi then smiled and said, "I
had to say it now, otherwise I wouldn't get a chance. There is no respect for
anyone or anything in the world."
Earlier, when Sivakumar knocked down a
fan's phone, his act was condemned by a lot of people. The veteran actor said
that he is not a person who wouldn't take photos with his fans. Instead, he
said that if his fans had asked him permission, he'd be willing to oblige for a
selfie.
