Pro-Kannada groups have called for a boycott of the film in the state alleging that the actor had hurt their sentiments in a speech made nine years ago. Actor Sathyaraj has finally opened up on the controversy over the release of Bahubali: The Conclusion, in Karnataka. Subsequently, in a video sent to the press on Friday, the actor said, "Nine years ago, Tamilians were attacked in Karnataka over the Cauvery water dispute. There were protests demanding that the screening of Tamil films be stopped in that state. To condemn such calls, the Tamil film fraternity had organised a meeting, and many had expressed their anger. I was one among them... I understand that some of the words that I had uttered then have hurt the sentiments of the Kannadigas... In the past nine years, 30 films of mine, including Bahubali: The Beginning, were released in the state. There were no problems. I was even approached to act in Kannada films, but I couldn't take them up because of other commitments. Since the protesters, who have watched my nine-year-old speech on YouTube, feel that my words hurt their sentiments, I express my heartfelt regret."

He also said, "I'm a very small worker in a very big film called Baahubali. I do not want the work and money of thousands of people go waste because of my words. Moreover, I have a responsibility to protect the interests of the distributors and exhibitors who have bought the rights of the film in Karnataka... My humble request to the people of Karnataka is to accept my apology and allow the release of the film in their state." The actor stressed that he is not against Kannadigas.
The fact that my assistant of 35 years, Sekar, belongs to that state is proof of that," he added However, Sathyaraj said that he will continue to fight for Tamils' causes. "I want to make it clear that be it the problems of the Tamil Eelam, the Cauvery issue, the farmers' struggle or any other protest by the Tamil people, I will continue to lend my voice. If producers feel that this stance of mine might lead to problems for their films in the future, I request them not to cast this small, ordinary actor in their films and suffer losses because I consider it a matter of pride to live and die as a Tamilian more than as an actor."

ஒன்பது ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னால், காவிரி நதிநீர் பிரச்சனையின்போது, நடிகர் சத்யராஜ் பேசியபோது சில வார்த்தைகள் கர்நாடக மக்களின் மனங்களை புண்படுத்தின என்பதால், அவர் மன்னிப்பு கேட்கும்வரை சத்யராஜூம் நடித்துள்ள பாகுபலி திரைப்படத்தின் இரண்டாம் பாகத்தை கர்நாடகத்தில் திரையிட அனுமதிக்கமாட்டோம் என்று கர்நாடக அமைப்புகள் சில கூறிவந்தன. இந்நிலையில் நேற்றைக்கு நடிகர் சத்யராஜ் வீடியோ ஒன்றை வெளியிட்டு அதில், கன்னடர்களிடம் வருத்தம் தெரிவித்து தன்னுடைய விளக்கத்தை அளித்துள்ளார். 

 

தன்னிலை விளக்கம் அளித்த அந்த வீடியோவில் அவர் பேசியதாவது, "நான் 9 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னாள் பேசிய பேச்சுகள் கன்னட மக்களை மன வருத்தம் அடையச் செய்தது என்று கருதினால் அதற்கு நான் வருத்தம் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறேன். எனக்கு ஆதரவாக குரல் கொடுக்கும் நலம் விரும்பிகளுக்கு வருத்தம் வேண்டாம் என்று கேட்டுக் கொள்கிறேன். நான் பாகுபலி படத்தில் மிகச் சிறிய தொழிலாளி தான். என்னுடைய செயலுக்காக பாகுபலி படத்தின் விநியோகஸ்தர்களை பாதிக்காமல் இருக்கும் கூடுதல் பொறுப்பும் எனக்கு இருக்கிறது. 

என்னால் பிரச்சனை வரும், தொல்லை வரும் என்று தயாரிப்பாளர்கள் நினைத்தால் என்னை வைத்து படம் எடுக்க வேண்டாம். ஒரு நடிகனாக இருப்பதை விட, இறப்பதைவிட எந்த வித மூட நம்பிக்கையும் இல்லாத ஒரு தமிழனாக இருப்பது, இறப்பதுதான் எனக்கு பெருமை, மகிழ்ச்சி. இனி வரும் காலங்களில் விவசாய பிரச்சனைகள காவிரி பிரச்சனை, தமிழீழ பிரச்சனை மற்றும் தமிழக மக்களின் அனைத்து பிரச்சனைகளுக்கும் குரல் கொடுத்து வருவேன். நடிகனாக இருப்பதை விட தமிழனாக இருக்கவே விரும்புகிறேன்.

எனது மனப்பூர்வ வருத்தத்தை ஏற்றுக் கொண்டு பாகுபலி படத்தின் 2 ஆம் பாகத்தை வெளியிட ஒத்துழைக்குமாறு கேட்டுக் கொள்கிறேன். தமிழ் உணர்வாளர்கள் என அனைவருக்கும் எனது நன்றியை தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறேன். என்னால் ஏற்பட்ட தொல்லைகளை பொறுத்துக் கொண்டஇயக்குனர் ராஜமௌலி உள்பட படக்குழுவினர் அனைவருக்கும் நன்றியை தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறேன்" என்று தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.
