Kadamban is an epic drama film which is written and directed by Ragava and produced by R.B.Choudary under Super Good Films and associate produced by B.Suresh, B.Jeevan, Jithan Ramesh, Jiiva and Arya under The Show People. Arya and Catherine Tresa feature in the leading roles, while Madhuvanti Arun plays a supporting role. Music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by S. R. Sathish Kumar, edited by Deva, art directed by A. R. Mohan and stunt choreographed by Dhilip Subbarayan.
Ragava and Vikram Prabhu announced that they would work on an action adventure film together, with Ilaiyaraaja signed on to compose the film's music. The film was reported to be titled as Thanni Kaattu Raja, but was postponed after Vikram Prabhu prioritised other projects. Ragava announced that he would instead make the action adventure film with Arya in the lead role, and that it would be set in the backdrop of a jungle.
Catherine Tresa was signed on as heroine, while Yuvan Shankar Raja was soon after announced as the film's music composer. For his role in the film, Arya gained weight and sported a muscular physique.The film began shooting in March 2016 in the forests of Kodaikanal and as mobile network coverage was hard to find, the team requested local operators to put up four communications towers.In May 2016, the film's actual title was revealed to be Kadamban. For the shooting of the climax scene, 70 elephants were used. Catherine Tresa says that, Kadamban has a social message to love forest for the betterment of the country.
Kadamban (Arya) is a daredevil tribal who belongs to a small clan living high up in a mountain in a dense forest. He loves his forests and is a sort of protector for it. Radhi (Catherine Tresa) is madly in love with the hero while her brother looks at him as an enemy. The head of a corporate conglomerate Mahendra (Deepraj Rana) and his brothers plan to illegally mine the mountain range for alkaline metals and to do that they need the tribals to move out their village. When Arya and the others refuse they first use deceit and later brute force against them and whether the hero and his little clan survive the onslaught or not forms the rest of the story.
