#ChettinadSpecial #VazhakkaiKolaUrundai #வாழைக்காய்கோலாஉருண்டை
Vazhakkai Kola Urundai is a ball shaped fried recipe made of raw bananas. It provides a delicious snacking experience which goes well with a cup of tea or coffee. Freshly sliced plantains are cooked and mashed with a unique combination of spices to form a soft mixture. These are then fried to ball shaped crispy snacks to get Chettinad Vazhakkai Kola Urundai. This is a perfect bite-sized appetizer as it does not require any sauce to dip into. Small quantity of grated coconut is also used for an improved flavour. Have a look at the list of ingredients used and the method of preparation of this yummy snack.

Ingredients:
1.  2 nos – Raw banana
2. 1/2 cup – Coconut grated
3. 1/4 cup – Roasted bengal gram / pottukadalai
4. 6 nos – Garlic (crushed)
5. 2 tbsp – Cashew nuts (broken)
6. 1/2 tsp – Fennel seeds / sombu
7. 1/4 tsp – Cumin seeds
8. 1/8 tsp – Turmeric powder
9. 1/4 to 1/2 tsp – Red chilli powder (or add as needed)
10. 1 pinch – Asafoetida

Method of preparation:
1. Do not reduce the quantity of red chili powder. As we will be adding roasted gram powder, the spice level will even out.

2. Instead of pressure cooking, you can also cook the plantain in an open vessel filled with water but it will take some time.

3. Do not dump the entire roasted gram powder at one go. Add little by little. I had 1 tbsp of powder left out.

4. If you do not have roasted gram dal, then you can also use chickpea flour (besan / kadalai maavu).

5. Do not add more than necessary amount of water. The coconut will provide enough moisture and grease.

6. After making the balls, always keep it covered as they tend to crack upon drying out.
